Cultural experience: I was brought up in inner city Auckland,where at the time, it was a diverse mix of cultures. My father who I am named after, came from Samoa and my mother from the King country. I am the middle child of 7. I went on to have 7 children myself, 2 being step children. This has kept my life very busy and at times chaotic but these experiences have shaped me and my practice and ever grateful for my family’s support, challenge and love.
I began professional life in Youth and Community work. By the late 80s I was working in the tertiary sector, teaching Community Studies modules and Women’s courses at UNITEC.
